SEIZE03 supports businesses and organizations who wish to publicly recognize that they have established themselves on unceded traditional Indigenous territory.
The acknowledgement of an unceded ancestral territory is not a political or legal gesture, but rather a symbolic one, and a demonstration of respect towards First Peoples. This expression of a will to develop closer ties with Indigenous peoples, whose presence on their ancestral land is immemorial, is part of a reconciliation journey that is beneficial to us all.
Recently, SEIZE03 supported Hockey Canada in preparing Indigenous Land Acknowledgement statements for the Canada-USA Women’s Hockey Rivalry Series games, which took place February 20th in Trois-Rivières and February 22nd in Laval.
Over the years, SEIZE03 has also supported École Polytechnique, HEC Montréal, First Nations Executive Education, the McConnell Foundation, the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Club, as well as several other organizations, in their land acknowledgement efforts. Land acknowledgements should be seen not as a threat, but rather as a way to set the foundation for the establishment of renewed relationships and paving the way towards reconciliation.
If you’re thinking of having a land acknowledgement developed for your business, or if you have any questions on how your business can contribute to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, our experts will be happy to advise you.
